New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge gave a refreshingly honest take on the disappointing start of the New York Mets this season.

After the Yankees’ 7-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, Judge was asked about the crosstown rivals ahead of this weekend’s Subway Series at Citi Field.

Judge’s Blunt Assessment of the Mets

The Mets currently sit at a disappointing 16-25 record, last place in the NL East. When asked why a talented team is struggling so badly, Judge didn’t hold back:

“I really don’t understand it. They got a great manager with Mendy over there… They got a great lineup, great pitching staff, so it’s baseball… You can’t really judge a team off of six weeks of the season… They got a good ball club over there.”

Judge made it clear that he believes the Mets are a strong team and that their poor start is just an early-season slump.

Yankees Also Looking to Bounce Back

The Yankees themselves have hit a rough patch, losing five of their last six games and sitting at 27-17. Judge also addressed his own team’s recent offensive struggles, saying:

“Once we get rolling here, it’s going to be special.”

Despite the recent skid, the Yankees remain in second place in the AL East and are still considered one of the top teams in baseball.

The Yankees will travel to Citi Field this weekend for a three-game series against the Mets. With both New York teams looking to turn their seasons around, the upcoming Subway Series could be exactly what both clubs need to regain momentum.
