    A new resolution seeks to mandate that lawmakers go without pay during government shutdowns, escalating tensions over fiscal responsibility on Capitol Hill.

    In a move that promises to reignite the perennial debate over fiscal accountability in the nation’s capital, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) has introduced S.Res. 526. The resolution aims to impose a direct consequence on members of the United States Senate should the federal government shutter due to a failure to pass appropriations bills. Under the proposal, the paychecks of senators would be withheld for the duration of any government shutdown, a measure designed to align the financial realities of lawmakers with those of the federal workforce.
