NAPA COUNTY, Calif. — Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is back in the spotlight after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car accident in California’s wine country.

According to official statements from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the high-profile incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the upscale town of Yountville. Authorities reported that Pelosi was driving his brown convertible when he struck a legally parked, unoccupied vehicle, causing “major rear-end damage.”

Instead of pulling over, witnesses say the political spouse kept going. A bystander at the scene told deputies that Pelosi briefly stopped after the crunching collision before driving away. Following a 911 call, sheriff’s deputies tracked down Pelosi’s vehicle roughly a quarter-mile away, where it was found partially blocking Yountville Cross Road with significant damage to its front right side.

When questioned by law enforcement, Pelosi made a stunning admission.

“Pelosi admitted to hitting something, but said he did not know what he had hit, so he kept driving,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Officials added that the octogenarian only stopped because his own vehicle became completely disabled and inoperable from the impact.
