FIFA will hold separate opening ceremonies in Mexico, Canada, and the United States before each host nation’s opening match at the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA announced that the 2026 World Cup will have a unique opening ceremony, with three separate ceremonies held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States. These events will take place before each host nation’s first match, instead of a single opening ceremony as is customary.

The biggest World Cup in history will kick off on June 11th in Mexico City. This is where the opening match will be held and also where the first opening ceremony will take place.

According to FIFA, the Grammy-winning Mexican pop band Mana will perform, along with artists Alejandro Fernandez and Belinda.

The opening ceremony in Mexico City is designed to celebrate Mexican culture. FIFA said the program will feature local artists and performances with a modern folk flavor, showcasing the identity of the nation hosting the World Cup for the third time.

Canada will also have its own opening ceremony before its opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12th. The lineup includes Alanis Morissette, Michael Buble, Alessia Cara, William Prince, and Sanjoy, a Bangladeshi-American DJ based in Los Angeles.

FIFA revealed that the Canadian program will feature a mosaic-inspired reenactment of the World Cup trophy, showcasing the cultural diversity and community spirit of the host nation.

Also on June 12th, the United States will hold its opening ceremony before its match against Paraguay in Los Angeles. Singer Katy Perry will be the main performer. The US opening ceremony will also feature rapper Future, along with artists Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla.

Holding three separate opening ceremonies shows FIFA’s desire to emphasize the role of all three co-hosting countries.

This is also the second time the World Cup has been held in multiple countries, after the 2002 World Cup co-hosted by South Korea and Japan, where South Korea hosted the opening ceremony.

Therefore, the 2026 World Cup is special not only because of the largest number of participating teams and the largest scale of organization in history, but also because of the opening ceremony spread across three North American countries.
