New York Yankees are paying tribute to one of the most iconic voices in franchise history.

The team announced they will wear a memorial patch honoring longtime radio play-by-play announcer John Sterling for the remainder of the 2026 season.

A Permanent Tribute to “The Voice of the Yankees”

Sterling, who passed away at age 87 on May 4, 2026, called Yankees games for 36 seasons and over 5,651 games. He was known for his legendary home run calls like “All rise!” for Aaron Judge and “Theeee Yankees win!” at the end of every victory.

Starting May 18 against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees will wear a special “JS” patch on their jersey sleeves for the rest of the season (they have been wearing “JS” caps through May 17).

Emotional On-Field Remembrance Already Held

The Yankees already held a heartfelt pregame tribute with a moment of silence, flowers placed at home plate, and a special video honoring Sterling’s legendary career.
